Kary, a 5th generation horseman and professional trainer, grew up in Vernal, Utah. He comes from a family of five children who were all very successful in the rodeo arena, winning over 100 saddles and 2,000 buckles between them. At a young age, Kary realized how important horses were in his life. Being a cowboy was not only a family tradition, but it was ingrained into his being. Although he was in the saddle as an infant, he trained his first horse, a little red Shetland pony, at the age of six. Little did he know that this pony would begin his lifelong horse training career. As a child, he rode with some of the greatest horsemen of our time. What he didn't realize until later in life, was the importance of horsemanship. His only goal as a child and teen was roping that calf. He didn't see the value of making better rope horses through improved horsemanship until much later. In college, Kary had a rodeo scholarship and went to the national College Rodeo all four years in calf roping, steer wrestling or team roping. His senior year he won the College National Finals calf roping. After graduating college, Kary started a construction company while still training horses on the side. Training was his release, his way to get away from the crazy world of business. After ten years, Kary decided to sell off the company and move to Texas to train horses. At first he had dreams of training cutting horses. That all changed when he started riding a reiner. It was then that he made a life changing decision to train and show reining horses. He has since combined his passion for reining with his experience in calf roping, team roping and steer wrestling. Without the combined influence of his parents and great horsemen like Nole Skinner, Clint Haverty, Casey Hinton, John W. Jones, Lance Robinson and Jack Hanham, Kary would not be the great trainer that he is today.

Kary believes that with a reining foundation, a horse can go on to perform in any discipline. By starting each horse he works with in reining, he ensures that his horses have the knowledge and capability to perform at their best. "I love the challenge of reining. It can be discouraging at times because some people have that 'get rich quick' mentality that you can learn it in a week and be great at it. What they don't understand is that it requires so much refinement in one's horsemanship. You must be deeply in tune with this detail and develop it your whole life. It's a perfected language between horse and rider. A person really doesn't understand that until they get involved in it," says Kary. By creating an individualized training program, Kary is able to give each client and their horse the attention they deserve. Whether you would like to rope, rein, cut or just have a horse that will do what you ask, Kary McNeill can provide your horse with the perfect combination of training. Not only does Kary have an abundance of experience in training performance horses, but he has a balanced show record in cowhorse, reining and roping.
